RESOLUTION OF HONOR AND RESPECT

ROBERT J. "BOBBY" STRATTON

A RESOLUTION in honor of and in respect for Robert J. "Bobby" Stratton.

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was born on September 29, 1921, a native son of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and a resident of Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky, he departed this life on June 7, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton served as the Shelby County Judge/Executive for more than 20 years, from 1981 until 2002; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was the Judge/Executive who was the architect of the acquisition and building of the Courthouse Annex, the Shelby County Detention Center and the Stratton Center, all without borrowing any funds; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton left  Shelby County with a multi-million dollar savings surplus when he completed his terms in office as a result of Democratic fiscally responsible stewardship; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was a member of numerous boards related to local and state civic organizations and government agencies; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was the founding member of the Shelby County Little League program, coach of the American Legion Baseball in Shelby County, and a Kentucky Commission of American Legion Baseball; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and supported its ideals and candidates; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was proud to be from Shelby County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky and was a loyal, faithful and caring friend to many of its citizens; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton was the beloved father of Wayne Stratton, Joy Lynn Stratton, Mary Stratton, and Mark Stratton; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Stratton is survived by his loving wife, Helen Harrod Stratton; and

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Kentucky Democratic Party and the Executive Committee of the Shelby County Democratic Party that they bestow their heartfelt gratitude, appreciation and thanks to Bobby Stratton for his service and dedication to the Democratic Party, its ideals and principles for the betterment of the life of the people of Shelby County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

It is directed that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Helen Harrod Stratton, this April 22, 2009.
