Call for Debate in District 58 Print
Thursday, 28 August 2008 21:48

(Shelbyville, Ky.-Aug.27)  Bill Young, democratic candidate for Kentucky’s house district 58 today challenged incumbent Brad Montell to a series of four debates to be held between now and the general election on Nov. 4.  Two of the appearances would be in Shelby County and two in Spencer County, with one in each county being a traditional debate and the other a more open-ended forum, allowing residents to ask questions and voice their concerns.

Palin's Way: Cronyism, Personal Vendettas Print
Sunday, 14 September 2008 09:30

From the New York Times:

Gov. Sarah Palin lives by the maxim that all politics is local, not to mention personal.

So when there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Ms. Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification for running the roughly $2 million agency.

Ms. Havemeister was one of at least five schoolmates Ms. Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.

And four months ago, a Wasilla blogger, Sherry Whitstine, who chronicles the governor’s career with an astringent eye, answered her phone to hear an assistant to the governor on the line, she said.  “You should be ashamed!” Ivy Frye, the assistant, told her. “Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now!”

Hightower boils it down to six key points, which we'll summarize here:

McCain had criticized earmarks from Palin Print
Wednesday, 10 September 2008 12:13

From the Los Angele Times:  "WASILLA, ALASKA--For much of his long career in Washington, John McCain has been throwing darts at the special spending system known as earmarking, through which powerful members of Congress can deliver federal cash for pet projects back home with little or no public scrutiny. He's even gone so far as to publish 'pork lists' detailing these financial favors.

Three times in recent years, McCain's catalogs of  'objectionable' spending have included earmarks for this small Alaska town, requested by its mayor at the time -- Sarah Palin
